OUR CHURCH HISTORY

The Gathering wholeness centre was found in 1960 by the late Pastors Samuel en Katrina ( meisie ) Morrie. The name of the church at that time was Huguenot Assembly. The church started with only 4 adults and a few children. Pastor Sameul Morrie, his wife Katrina ( meisie ) Morrie, his father,  Jim Morrie and his mother, Catherine Morrie were the only adult members. All of them all ready went to be with the Lord.

As they continued to serve the Lord faithfully, the Lord added new members who were being saved. It was later in the life of the church that Pastor Sameul Morrie was led by the Holy Spirit to reach out to the farm areas. During one of their outreaches a certain Brother Frans Daniëls and his wife,  Eva Daniëls gave their hearts to the Lord and for a long time served with Pastors Samuel and Katrina Morrie in the church. More people on the farms later where saved and added to the church.

A few names that need to be mentioned are one Joppie and elder Simon Jacobs who also until their death devoted themselves to the church.  Although many of the new converts could not read or write, they were immovable in their faith.

In 1972 the Huguenot Assembly purchased a piece of land situated in Orleans Avenue. The land was bought in cash for R 1600, 00. Since 1972 there were many attempts made to build a place of worship, but it could not be done for a lack of funds or manpower. After the death of sister Katrina Morrie in 1994, the church went through a very tough time. It ended up that there was a huge split in the congregation.

In 2006 the Lord spoke in different ways to most of the congregation to come back again and to start working together to finish what was started in 1972.

On Sunday 6 August 2006, the first service was held in a small garage that could seat only 40 people. The new church consisted only out of 16 people. This time the church of the Lord were committed to do more than what was necessary to build a place of worship. Because as one person puts it, “ It was for this reason that the land was purchased. “

Within a record time of three months the building was finished and dedicated to the glory of God on Sunday 12 May 2007. This was exactly 9 months after the first service. A baby was born that will grow into a mighty warrior for Christ. We as a new generation salute all who laboured before us and promise that we will preach the word of God until His soon return.

Also we want to thank Pastor William Morrie and His wife and their sons for continuing with the work whilst many of the other congregation were called to travel and learn more about how to serve the Lord faithfully and obediently.

God, through his grace will help us to become more than what we think we can be. The Gathering Wholeness Centre is part of the bigger church “ Assemblies of God “

WHAT WE BELIEVE IN

1) The Bible is the inspired Word of God.

2) The Trinity – Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  The deity and humanity of Jesus Christ.

3) The necessity of being born again.

4) Baptism by immersion after salvation.

5) Dedicating to God those who are too young to make the decision for themselves.
